§ Mr. WEDGWOODasked the President of the Board of Trade whether there is at or near Cardiff some ninety acres of foreshore vested in the Board of Trade; whether the Cardiff Railway has recently been built, shutting off public access to this foreshore from the land side; whether the railway company are charging rents 1884W for rights of way to this land; and whether the Board propose to take any and, if so, what steps to protect the rights of the public to this land?
Mr. BUXTONA considerable extent of foreshore at or near Cardiff is vested in the Crown and is under the management of the Board of Trade, but some of the foreshore which is nearest to the railway has been sold subject to public rights. If my hon. Friend will furnish me with particulars as to the exact position of the foreshore to which he refers, and as to the means of access in respect of which rents are stated to be charged, I will make further inquiry.
