§ Sir JOHN LONSDALEasked the President of the Local Government Board, whether his attention has been called to the fact that materials for the adulteration of flour are being advertised and used by millers throughout the country; and whether, having regard to the fact that the introduction of many of these substances into flour is prejudicial to the public health, he will give an undertaking to introduce immediately legislation for the purpose of putting a stop to this practice?
§ Mr. BURNSSection 3 of the Sale of Food and Drugs Act, 1875, provides that no person shall mix any article of food with any ingredients or material so as to render the article injurious to health with intent that the same may be sold in that state. The penalty for a first offence against this enactment is a fine not exceeding £50 and for a subsequent offence imprisonment not exceeding six months. This section seems to me to deal with practices such as are described in the hon. Baronet's question.
