HC Deb 11 March 1912 vol 35 c932W
Mr. NEWMAN

asked whether, in all cases, ponies or other animals employed underground in coal mining have been brought to the surface or are being adequately cared for in the mines; and whether adequate steps are being taken to ensure that no undue suffering be caused to such animals during the continuance of the strike in all coal mining areas?

Mr. McKENNA

No case has been brought to my notice in which the animals in a mine are not being adequately cared for, and I do not think there need be any apprehension that animals will be left below ground without receiving proper attention.
