HC Deb 07 March 1912 vol 35 cc684-5W
Major ARCHER-SHEE

asked the Under-Secretary for War (1) whether the new pointed bullet cartridges have been found to jam in the converted Lee-Enfield rifles issued at Aldershot; and (2) whether an order has been issued recalling one type of the new pointed bullet ammunition issued to the troops in the Aldershot command?

Colonel SEELY

The case referred to in these questions occurred at Aldershot, in some trials during rapid fire. There was no actual jam, but there was difficulty of extraction in the rapid fire test at the Shoulder with one particular batch of first manufacture. This batch was withdrawn. As I have already explained, the difficulty has now been overcome, and the ammunition issued to the troops is satisfactory.
