PEASEThe difference of five between the number of junior examiners appointed by the Board of Education during the six years ending 31st December, 1905, and the number appointed during the six years ending 31st December, 1911, is686W accounted for partly by accidental variation and partly by the increase of work falling on the Department. All the seventy-five appointments in question, including those filled by promotion from the clerical staff, were made without regard to any qualifying or competitive examination.
