HC Deb 20 June 1912 vol 39 c1985W
Mr. NEWMAN

asked the Chief Secretary what was the delay in publishing the Return of expenses incurred by each county council in Ireland in connection with the county and district elections held in 1908; and if he will state when it is proposed to publish the Return of expenses incurred by each county council in Ireland in connection with the county and district elections held in 1911?

Mr. BIRRELL

The Return referred to in the first paragraph of the question was ordered by the House on 23rd February, 1911, and presented on 2nd June, the delay being caused by the fact that the information had to be obtained from the local authorities throughout Ireland. If the hon. Member wishes to move for the Return of expenses incurred in connection with the elections of 1911 there will be no objection to its being granted, but the preparation of the Return will take some time, as the accounts containing the payments in question have not yet been audited and it is not quite certain whether the local authorities have yet discharged all their liabilities in regard to last year's elections.
