HC Deb 19 June 1912 vol 39 cc1808-9W
Mr. HENRY M'LAREN

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware of a lock-out of settmakers in the Sapcote quarries of the Enderly and Stoney Stanton Granite Company; whether he can state why the settmakers in question have been locked-out, in view of the fact that they have no quarrel with their employers; and whether he can communicate with the employers and ascertain the reason for the action which has been taken?

Mr. ROBERTSON

I am aware of the lock-out of settmakers to which my hon. Friend refers, and am informed that the settmakers in the employ of the Stoney Stanton Granite Company have been locked out in pursuance of a general dispute between the Employers' Association and the Trade Unions to which the company and the workmen respectively belong, arising out of a strike of quarrymen in Aberdeenshire. The Chief Industrial Commissioner is making further inquiry into the matter.
