HC Deb 18 June 1912 vol 39 c1635W
Mr. ALAN SYKES

asked the President of the Local Government Board, whether he has received resolutions from boards of guardians urging him, in accordance with the recommendations of the Royal Commissions on Local Taxation and on the Poor Laws, to alter the limitation of the amount of Exchequer contributions in respect of the salaries of Poor Law officers and the cost of drugs and medical appliances to the expenditure actually incurred during the financial year 1887–8, so as to make the grants correspond with the efficiency of the service now being given; and what action he proposes to take in the matter?

Mr. BURNS

I have received some resolutions from boards of guardians on this subject. The whole question of grants from the Imperial Exchequer in aid of local rates is now under the consideration of the Departmental Committee on Local Taxation.
