HC Deb 18 June 1912 vol 39 cc1641-2W
Mr. STANIER

asked the President of the Board of Agriculture (1) when he will be able to give a statement of the objects and amounts that the Development Commissioners have subscribed to through the Board of Agriculture, and what has been promised in the future, and (2) whether the Board know when the Argentine Government begin to count the six months from after an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in this country in order to allow animals to enter their ports, and if it is from the date of the completion of the slaughtering of the infected animals or the date of the withdrawal of the precautionary measures on the place being declared free of the disease?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

I have no information as to the practice of the Argentine Government in this matter, but as the hon. Member is aware, a Decree was issued on the 11th instant removing the restrictions on the importation of British livestock into Argentina. The date of the publication of this Decree was six months from the date on which the slaughter of the infected animals was completed in the case of the most recent outbreak in England.
