§ Mr. STUART-WORTLEYasked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether the Government factory at Enfield is at present actively engaged in manufacturing bayonets for the Army; whether all orders have been withdrawn from the private trades on the ground that fewer bayonets are at present required; and whether he will take steps to ensure that the private trades get their due share even of the reduced production?
§ Mr. TENNANTFurther requirements of bayonets are very small, as the rearmament with the long bayonet is completed, and there will now be only upkeep, which is just sufficient to keep a small nucleus of men employed at Enfield. Timely warning was given to the trade of the probable cessation of orders.
