HC Deb 13 June 1912 vol 39 c1193W
Sir JOHN JARDINE

asked the Secretary to the Treasury under the provisions of what Statutes are sales of Crown lands effected; whose consent is necessary to such sales, and what is the procedure in such cases; and whether power will be given to the Estimates Committee to inquire into proposed contracts for such sales before they are completed?

Mr. MASTERMAN

Sales of Crown land by the Commissioners of Woods are effected under the Crown Lands Acts, 1829 and 1833. Section 60 of the former Act provides that no sale, except when the purchase money shall not exceed £100, shall be made without the previous authority of the Treasury, signified by warrant. I do not think it would be possible to adopt the suggestion in the last part of the question.
