HC Deb 12 June 1912 vol 39 c1009W
Mr. KING

asked the Home Secretary what has been the average amount paid annually during the past ten years in first fruits and tenths by the clergy of the Church of England in Wales to Queen Anne's Bounty Fund; whether a payment is made annually by the Ecclesiastical Commissioners to Queen Anne's Bounty in lieu of tenths chargeable on the incomes of the Welsh bishops; and, if so, what is the amount of the payment so made?

Mr. McKENNA

It is not possible at present to give the average amount paid annually during the past ten years in first fruits and tenths by the Welsh clergy to Queen Anne's Bounty Fund. The average over a period of ten years up to 1904 was £835; which included the first fruits and tenths paid by the clergy, the annual sums paid by the bishops in lieu of first fruits and tenths, and the annual sumspaid by the Ecclesiastical Commissioners in respect of prebendal and other property in their hands. No payment is made by the Ecclesiastical Commissioners to Queen Anne's Bounty in lieu of tenths chargeable on the income of the Welsh bishops.
