There were also 17,618 students in attendance at technical schools (or central institutions), and 137,180 pupils attended continuation classes, but from the nature of the case no figures as to average attendance can be given under these heads. The system of payment of Grants is not such as to enable the Grants as a whole to be classified in the manner desired by my hon. Friend, and the same applies to the contributions by ratepayers. The amount of the Grants to local education authorities for all branches of education was £2,406,911 (including Grants from the Education (Scotland) Fund), and the contribution from rates was £1,644,546. The figures given are all for the year 1910–11.
