§ Mr. C. BATHURSTasked the President of the Board of Education whether his attention has been called to a resolution, recently passed unanimously at a meeting of the Wilts County Association of the National Union of Teachers, to the effect that the time had now arrived when the system of grants for elementary education should be revised and simplified and the cost of conducting approved work and the ability of an area to pay should alone be the bases upon which grants are assessed; and whether he proposes to modify the system of making grants in the direction thereby contemplated?
§ Mr. TREVELYANMy right hon. Friend received on Monday last from the Secretary of the Wilts County Association of the National Union of Teachers a copy of the resolution to which the hon. Member refers. The matter is one which has been engaging his attention, but he is not able to make any statement in reply to the last part of the question.
