HC Deb 21 February 1912 vol 34 c707W
Mr. HADDOCK

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether any British representations have been made to the Canadian Government in regard to the proposals recently submitted to that Government by the iron and steel manufacturers of Canada for granting a renewal of the recently lapsed bounties on iron and steel; what instances there have been of the importation into this country in recent years of bounty-fed iron and steel from Canada; and whether he can give the House any information, as to the disturbance caused to British industry by such importation?

Mr. HARCOURT

No representations on the subject have been made by His Majesty's Government. I cannot say what the importation may have been in recent years, but so far as the imports of iron and steel from Canada are distinguished in the Returns they are quite small.
