54. Mr. CAWLEYasked the Secretary to the Treasury whether a driver of a motor car, who also looks after the car, will under any circumstances have to be insured under Part II. of the National Insurance Act?
Mr. BUXTONFrom decisions given by the Umpire, of which I am sending copies to my hon. Friend, it would appear that contributions under Part II. of the Act would not ordinarily be payable in respect of the driver of a motor car who also looks after the car. There may be special cases in which contributions would be payable, as, for instance, in the case of a workman who is mainly employed in repairs and only occasionally drives or who is employed by manufacturers both to drive motor cars in order to test them, and also to do adjustments and repairs.
