§ Mr. BOLANDasked the Chief Secretary for Ireland if he can state how much money has been expended by the Congested Districts Board on houses and out-offices on new holdings at Baslickane, Waterville, formerly part of the Butler estate; why did the Board not carry out any improvements on John Sullivan's house, and why did they refuse to give him building materials from their store; is he aware that John Sullivan made several applications and that he gave notice to the inspector and to the Board not to vest his farm in the Land Commission until improvements should be made, and that he was as punctual in the payment of his annuity as the other tenants; and can he state what the Board proposes to do in respect of John Sullivan's claims?
§ Mr. BIRRELLThe Congested Districts Board inform me that they have expended about £700 on buildings on the Baslickane farm, on the Butler estate. John Sullivan1602W was offered a loan to help him to build a new house, but he has taken no steps towards building it, so far as the Board are aware. He was refused materials at the Board's store as he had not entered into a bond for the repayment of the cost of them. He can still apply for a loan.
