HC Deb 02 April 1912 vol 36 cc1147-8W
Mr. GILL

asked whether all land in Wales is subject to a tithe rent-charge; and, if not, what proportion is so charged?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

At the time of the commutation the proportion of the total acreage of land in England and Wales subject to tithe rent-charge was 76 per cent. No separate calculation was made for Wales. I am unable to say what is the proportion of land so charged at the present day either in England and Wales jointly or in Wales alone.

Mr. GILL

also asked what amount of money is obtained yearly from the tithe rent-charge in Wales; what amount goes to the Welsh Church; and what amount to lay persons?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

I would refer the hon. Member to the answers I gave on this subject on the 5th and the 14th March, which supply all the information at my disposal.
