asked what deductions have been made from Government Grants in aid of local taxation in Mayo county during the past five years; and the grounds for such deductions?

Mr. BIRRELL

The following deductions were made from Grants in the case of county Mayo in each of the last five years in respect of land purchase transactions: Year ended 31st March, 1908, £54 5s. 4d.; 1909, £l,875 12s. 4d.; 1910. nil; 1911, £256 2s. 5d.; 1912, £179 4s. 3d. In the year ended March, 1910, a sum of £129 17s. 5d. was added to the share of the county in the Death Duty Grant on account of sums repaid to the Guarantee Fund established under the Land Purchase Acts of 1891 and 1903.
