HC Deb 25 October 1911 vol 30 cc269-70W
Mr. COURTHOPE

asked the President of the Board of Agriculture whether the cause of the recent outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease in England has been satisfactorily traced?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

It has not been possible to attribute the infection in either of the two recent outbreaks to any specific cause.

Mr. COURTHOPE

asked the President of the Board of Agriculture whether he is aware that the Department of Animal Husbandry at Washington, United States of America, have announced that no further importations of live stock from Great Britain will be admitted into the United States of America until such time as the origin of the outbreaks in this country has been traced; and, if he will say what steps His Majesty's Government propose to take in this matter?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

The Board have received no communication from the United States Government of any decision of the character mentioned in the question.
