§ Mr. EDWARD STRAUSSasked the Secretary to the Treasury if he will state what was the number of second-class examining officers and assistants employed in the outdoor department of Customs in London at the beginning of the financial year 1908, and the number of the same class of officers employed by the department at the beginning of the current financial year; and whether there is any intention of increasing the staff in the immediate future?
Mr. McKINNON WOODThe numbers were 503 on 1st April, 1908, and 463 on 1st April, 1911. The present number is 478, and further additions will be made should they prove to be necessary.
