§ Mr. BURNSOf the £100,000 voted by Parliament for the purposes of the Unemployed Workmen Act during the last financial year the sum of £77,671 was distributed in England and Wales to the Central (Unemployed) Body for London and the Distress Committees outside London. I am not yet in possession of information as to the amount raised by rates for the purposes of the Act. In addition to the sum above-mentioned, I sanctioned loans during the year to the amount of £294,565 in respect of permanent works undertaken by local authorities which would assist in providing work for the on employed.
