Mr. PRIMROSEasked whether the officials employed in the compilation of the Census receive the same remuneration in England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland?
§ Mr. HOBHOUSEThe case of Ireland is not comparable with those of England and Wales and of Scotland—the work of enumeration, for example, being to a large extent carried out by the Royal Irish Constabulary. As between England and Wales on the one hand and Scotland on the other, there is a general similarity in the terms of remuneration, but not absolute uniformity.
