Mr. FELL

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he has now received particulars from South Africa of the number of natives at present employed in the mines of the Transvaal; from what countries they were recruited; and the death rate of those from the Transvaal, the Mozambique territories, and from Central Africa, respectively?

furnished the following particulars of natives employed in all mines and works in proclaimed labour districts of the Transvaal (inclusive of natives employed by contractors):—
