asked the Under-Secretary of State for India if he can state what is the present amount of the Indian Gold Standard Reserve Fund; how much of this fund is held in gold, how much in silver, and how much is invested in securities, giving a list of these latter; and also what portion of the fund is held in India and what portion in England?

Mr. MONTAGU

The gold standard reserve amounts at present to £19,436,773, of which £17,502,471 (i.e., £1,140,857 in the form of money placed at short notice or deposited with banks, and £16,361,614 in the form of securities) is held in England, and £1,934,302 is held in rupees in India. The securities for £16,361,614 consist of Consols, Guaranteed Two and Three-quarters per Cent. Stock, local loans, Treasury Bills, Exchequer Bonds, Corporation of London Debentures, Transvaal Government Guaranteed Stock, Canada Bonds, New Zealand Debentures, Queensland Bonds and Stock, New South Wales Bonds and Stock, Union of South Africa Bills.
