HC Deb 24 July 1911 vol 28 c1498W
Mr. WATT

asked the Lord Advocate whether his attention has been called to the case of John Carmichael, a member of the Sailors' and Firemen's Union, convicted of assault at the central police court, Glasgow, whose sentence has been delayed until 12th August; whether he is aware that Carmichael Is desirous of going to sea this week; and whether, in these circumstances, he will see either that the sentence is declared at once or that it be put off until Carmichael's return from this voyage?

Mr. URE

I have made inquiry into the case referred to in my hon. Friend's question, but I have no authority to direct the stipendiary in a matter of procedure of this nature. I would, however, remind my hon. Friend that in the circumstances stated it is open to Carmichael to apply to the stipendiary for a continuation of the case during his absence at sea.
