HC Deb 27 February 1911 vol 22 cc168-9W
Mr. W. A. REDMOND

asked the Financial Secretary to the War Office, whether a letter dated 10th December, 1910, has been received at the War Office from J. Burke, a retired pensioned warrant officer of the Royal Engineers, complaining that, instead of a pension, he was given a gratuity on his retirement after more than nineteen years' service; whether he has considered the facts of this case, and, if so, with what result; and if he will state whether there has been any discrimination against this man?

Mr. HALDANE

The letter mentioned was duly answered on 23rd January, and he was informed that he had no claim for an increase to his Army pension for his civilian service as a pensioner clerk. He was treated with great consideration in that, he was specially retained beyond the age of sixty to the age of sixty-five, thereby enabling him to earn a gratuity under Civil Service rules.
