Mr. W. A. REDMONDasked the Financial Secretary to the War Office, whether a letter dated 10th December, 1910, has been received at the War Office from J. Burke, a retired pensioned warrant officer of the Royal Engineers, complaining that, instead of a pension, he was given a gratuity on his retirement after more than nineteen years' service; whether he has considered the facts of this case, and, if so, with what result; and if he will state whether there has been any discrimination against this man?
§ Mr. HALDANEThe letter mentioned was duly answered on 23rd January, and he was informed that he had no claim for an increase to his Army pension for his civilian service as a pensioner clerk. He was treated with great consideration in that, he was specially retained beyond the age of sixty to the age of sixty-five, thereby enabling him to earn a gratuity under Civil Service rules.
