§ Mr. CARLILEasked the hon. Member for Southampton, as representing the First Commissioner of Works, whether he will consider the advisability of granting one weekly rest-day to the park-keepers?
Mr. DUDLEY WARDAt present the park-keepers are granted annually the following leave with pay:—
Nine days ordinary leave 9 One Sunday in four 13 One day off in twenty-eight working days 13 Six public holidays 6 41 The granting of the suggested privilege would involve a cost of about £825, and, in the circumstances, a permanent addition of this sum to the Vote for Royal Parks would not, in the opinion of the First Commissioner, be justified.
