HC Deb 16 February 1911 vol 21 cc1433-4W
MARQUESS of TULLIBARDINE

asked the Lord Advocate whether he could state what was likely to be the annual cost to the Education (Scotland) Fund of the proposed scheme of superannuation applicable to elementary and secondary school teachers in Scotland?

Mr. URE

The cost of the scheme to the Education (Scotland) Fund depends on many factors, some of which, for example, the Treasury contribution under Section 14 (6), Education (Scotland) Act, 1908, have not yet been determined, but the cost of the scheme as it stands to the Education (Scotland) Fund may be put at about £120,000, in the first years of working. This charge on the Education (Scotland) Fund will, of course, take the place of the existing charge on that Fund under Section 13, Education (Scotland) Act, 1908, which is estimated for the present year at £17,800, and is a steadily increasing charge. The scheme will probably not be laid on the Table of the House for at least three months from this date, and it is impossible to forecast what modifications affecting the cost may be decided upon.
