HC Deb 16 February 1911 vol 21 c1402W
Sir WILLIAM BULL

asked whether, in view of a recent prosecution, adequate steps have now been taken to prevent a recurrence of a system of fraud, whereby an ex-employé at Somerset House was enabled, during an approximate period of four years, to make fictitious claims for rebate of Income Tax, which claims were duly paid; and whether, in view of the facility with which the claims of this man were settled by the authorities, similar facilities will be granted to the general public who submit genuine claims for rebate?

Mr. HOBHOUSE

The answer to the first part of the hon. Member's question is in the affirmative. With regard to the second part, no special facilities were granted in the case referred to.
