The average number of hours daily for which boy messengers were employed during the week ended the 4th instant in assisting postmen in bag carrying on the first delivery and in facing letters on the evening duty were 136 and 234, respectively. Proposals for a revision of the force of the Eastern Central District Office, required by growth of work and rearrangements following on the occupation of the building are now in course of preparation, and steps will in the ordinary course be taken to reduce the overtime as far as possible by employing established staff to meet regular requirements. Fresh arrangements are to be made for assisting postmen in bag carrying.
