Mr. BURGOYNE

asked how many armoured ships are actually being constructed for the Italian and Austrian navies, their names, when they were laid down, and where?

Mr. McKENNA

The following armoured ships are under construction for the Italian Navy:—"Dante Alighieri," at the Royal Arsenal, Castellamere: "Conti di Cavour," at the Royal Arsenal, Spezzia; "Leonardo da Vinci," at Odero and Co., Genoa; "Giulio Cesare," at Ansaldo Armstrong, Genoa. Of these, the "Dante Alighieri" was laid down on 6th June, 1910, but the Admiralty have no official information as to the dates on which the remaining three ships were laid down. As regards Austria, the "Zrinyi" was laid down at the Stabilimento Teehnico, Trieste, in November, 1908. Two other ships, numbered "4" and "5," are also under construction at the same yard, but there is no official information at the Admiralty as to the dates on which they were laid down.
