HC Deb 13 February 1911 vol 21 cc853-4W
Mr. CRUMLEY

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Agriculture whether, having regard to the absence in Ireland of swine fever, he will cause the repeal of the order prohibiting the exportation of store pigs to England and Scotland from Ireland?

Sir E. STRACHEY

Swine fever unfortunately still exists in Ireland. Ninety-five outbreaks of that disease were reported there in 1910, as against eighty-eight in 1909, and during the first five weeks of the present year, nineteen outbreaks have been reported, as compared with five in the corresponding period of 1910. In these circumstances the withdrawal of the Order to which the hon. Member refers would not be justified.
