HC Deb 13 February 1911 vol 21 c817W
Mr. FIELD

asked the Secretary to the Treasury whether he can state how many Second Division clerks are at present employed in the Customs Statistical Office; whether he can state the reason they were introduced and the nature of the duties they perform; and when their service in the Statistical Office terminate?

Mr HOBHOUSE

Five Second Division Clerks are being employed temporarily to assist in the Statistical Office to meet pressure of work, pending the settlement of certain questions affecting the business of the Office. They are performing duties similar to those assigned to Assistant Clerks. It is not yet possible to say when the necessity for such temporary assistance will cease.
