HC Deb 13 February 1911 vol 21 c850W
Mr. KING

asked the President of the Local Government Board what was the estimated male and female adult population of England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland, respectively, on 1st January, 1911?

Mr. BURNS

The male and female adult populations (i.e., the numbers living over twenty-one years of age) of the several parts of the United Kingdom on 1st January, 1911, are estimated to be as follows:—

Males. Females.
England (including Monmouthshire) 9,024,000 10,163,000
Wales (excluding Monmouthshire) 525,000 531,000
Scotland 1,276,000 1,418,000
Ireland 1,198,000 1,272,000
12,023,000 13,384,000
It must, however, be remembered that at a date so far removed from the last Census enumeration, all estimates of population, and more especially those relating to any particular section of it, are of very doubtful value, and may prove to be far from accurate when the result of the forthcoming Census becomes known
