Captain FABERasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether a man who is at present a pauper and who was entitled to an old age pension on 1st January is disqualified because his wife is in receipt of parish relief, and will still be disqualified because she is not old enough for a pension?
§ Mr. BURNSMy right hon. Friend has asked me to reply to this question. Under250W Section (56) of the Poor Law Amendment Act, 1834, all relief given to or on account of a wife is to be considered as given to the husband of such wife. The Local Government Board are advised that poor relief thus given constructively to a husband disqualifies him for receiving an old age pension.
