HC Deb 15 December 1911 vol 32 c2810W
Sir C. KINLOCH-COOKE

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he can say what payment was made to the officials who distributed Form IV. in Scotland and Ireland; what further payment was made per hereditament for the collection of the completed forms; and how many forms were distributed in Ireland, and how many were collected?

Mr. LLOYD GEORGE

In Scotland this work was performed partly by Land Valuation officers appointed for the purpose, and partly by surveyors of taxes. The former were paid at an inclusive rate of 3d. per entry for the first ten thousand entries in the Valuation Roll, and 2d. for each subsequent entry. Surveyors of taxes were remunerated for their personal services at an average rate (varying with the character of the work) of £1 8s. per thousand entries, in addition to the actual expenses incurred by them for clerical assistance. As regards payments for the distribution of Forms IV. in Ireland, I would refer the hon. Member to the reply given by my right hon. Friend the Financial Secretary to the Treasury on the 20th ultimo to the hon. Member for St. Albans.
