§ Mr. CLYNESasked the Attorney-General whether his attention has been drawn to a decision in the Manchester Assize Court, on Monday, 4th December, which gave to a master tailor £150 damages, with costs, upon the ground that trade unionists had caused work to be withheld from him; and whether he can promise legislation which will ensure corresponding damages to trade unionists when an employer for similar reasons withholds work from them or induces another employer to do so?
§ Sir RUFUS ISAACSThis action was based upon the common law, which would give any workman or trade unionist the same right to damages if similar facts were proved against the employer. No legislation is required for this purpose.
