Mr. MONTAGUE BARLOWasked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether has attention has been called to the case of Colour-sergeant Jones, late of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, who was assaulted by men of the 97th Regiment at Dover and lost an eye, in consequence, so long ago as 1869; whether he is aware that on leaving the Service he was refused any compensation for the loss of his eye on the ground that his medical history sheet was lost, for which he was in no way responsible; and whether, seeing that Colour-sergeant Jones is now losing the sight of both eyes, he will reconsider the case with a view to making him some allowance?
§ Mr. TENNANTThis case shall be investigated, and the result communicated to the hon. Gentleman.
