Captain FABERasked the Under-Secretary of State for War if he will state whether Article 50 of Royal Warrant, by which a captain in the Royal Field Artillery must obtain the rank of major by the age of forty-five or retire, applies to those officers who were taken on at over age, when wanted during the South African War, seeing that it has already been laid down that the age limit of those who had not attained the rank of lieutenant-colonel by fifty years of age has been extended to fifty-two; and whether he will grant some extension to certain officers who served during the South African War, and will be ruled out for age otherwise as captains?
§ Colonel SEELYThe rule in question is of general application, but proposals are at present under consideration which may affect the question.
