§ Mr. YOUNGERasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether his attention has been drawn to the fact that the Legislature of Jamaica on Friday last passed a resolution in favour of the re-establishment of the direct steamship service between Jamaica and Great Britain, and expressed their willingness to contribute a reasonable subsidy in aid of the cost; and whether, under these circumstances, the Government are prepared to continue to pay their portion of the subsidy?
Mr. HARCOURTA telegram stating that the legislative council has passed a resolution to the effect stated in the question reached me yesterday. I am not at present in a position to reply to the latter portion of the question.
