HC Deb 11 April 1911 vol 24 cc446-7W
Mr. GODFREY COLLINS

asked the Lord Advocate whether he is aware that the national Exchequer is required to finance a share of the cost of the Police (Weekly Rest-Day) (England and Wales) Act; and if he can say what would be the equivalent grant necessary for Scotland if the above Act applied equally to Scotland and to England?

Mr. URE

I would remind my hon. Friend that while it is true that part of the cost of the police in England is paid out of money provided by the Exchequer, it is not the case that the passing of the Act referred to increased the charge upon the Exchequer. There is, therefore, as I have already stated in reply to similar questions, no ground on which an increase in the Scottish grants could be pressed upon the Treasury.
