HC Deb 04 April 1911 vol 23 c2177W
Captain CLAY

asked the hon. Member for Southampton, as representing the First Commissioner of Works, whether he is aware that a number of men have been employed during the past few months on alterations to the suspension bridge in St. James's Park; what was the cost of such alterations; and whether they were necessary in view of the proposal to erect a new bridge as part of a memorial to King Edward VII.?

Mr. DUDLEY WARD

The reply to the first part of the question is in the affirrmative; the cost of the repairs was £600. The work was absolutely necessary for safety and had no connection with any scheme for a memorial to His late Majesty.
