HC Deb 04 April 1911 vol 23 cc2167-8W
Mr. GUINEY

asked the President of the Board of Trade what was the cause of the accident at Newmarket railway station in October, 1910, as reported by the Great Southern and Western Railway Company; who was to blame in the matter; if the Board of Trade made any inquiries as to the fitness of the officials who were on that day in charge of the station, the station master and regular guard being absent; and what is the age of the porter Nevins who was on that day in charge of the signal station?

Mr. BUXTON

From the information supplied by the railway company it appeared that this collision was caused by the driver of one of the engines involved failing to keep a careful look-out. No inquiry was made of the company with regard to the station staff, as they did not appear to be concerned in the accident.
