HC Deb 04 April 1911 vol 23 c2170W
Mr. STANIER

asked the President of the Local Government Board whether he can give the sum produced by a penny rate in the pound sterling in England, Wales and Scotland, respectively?

Mr. BURNS

Without allowance for empties, compounding, and so forth, a rate one penny in the pound, calculated on the assessable value for the purposes of the Poor Rate, would represent in England about £817,136, and in Wales about £38,339. I must refer the hon. Member to the Lord Advocate for the figures as regards Scotland.
