HC Deb 04 April 1911 vol 23 cc2159-60W
Lord NINIAN CRICHTON-STUART

asked the Home Secretary whether, in view of the fact that the Coronation has been fixed to take place on a Thursday, he will, if the day of the Coronation is proclaimed a public holiday, allow all shops which are now ordered to be closed early on Wednesday, under Section 1 of the Shop Hours Act, 1904, to remain open until their ordinary closing time on other days of the week?

Mr. CHURCHILL

I have no power to grant any dispensation from the provision of a closing order which has been duly made and confirmed under the Shop Hours Act, 1904.
