HC Deb 28 April 1910 vol 17 cc754-5W
Mr. O'MALLEY

asked the Chief Secretary whether, in view of the poverty of the people of Connemara, county Galway, the rents exacted from tenants whose holdings are admittedly uneconomic and the issuing of writs for the non-payment of rent by many of the landlords pending purchase under the Land Act of 1909, he will use his influence to urge on the Congested Districts Board the desirability and the urgency of taking immediate steps to give the tenants the benefit of the Land Act; and if he will state when the new rules of the Congested Districts Board will be published?

Mr. BIRRELL

The Congested Districts Board fully realise how desirable it is that estates such as are described in the question should be purchased for resale to the tenants. The Board will facilitate such transactions to the utmost of their power, and the people of Connemara may rest assured that their claims will not be overlooked. The new rules and forms have been approved by the Lord Lieutenant, and are now in the printers' hands.
