HC Deb 28 April 1910 vol 17 cc774-5W
Mr. HENNIKER HEATON

asked the Postmaster-General whether he is aware that numbers of British people are inconvenienced through their inability to purchase stamps of the sixty Colonies and Dependencies of the British Empire in this country; whether he will fit up a room in the principal post office in London, Dublin, Belfast, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Manchester, and Liverpool where these stamps may be obtained by the public when they are desirous of sending their correspondents the means to reply to letters, etc.; and whether he is aware that in most of the British Colonies, States, and Commonwealths British stamps are for sale at the principal post offices, and that this arrangement is found to be a convenience to travellers?

Mr. HERBERT SAMUEL

The answer to the first and last questions is in the negative. In the absence of any evidence of demand for the sale of Colonial stamps by the British Post Office, I see no justification for the measure which the hon. Member suggests.
