asked the President of the Board of Education if he will give for the year 1909–10 the number of pupils on the rolls of public elementary and primary schools in England; the number of secondary and technical schools that receive Grants from Imperial funds; the amount of the grants paid; and the cost of public education per head of the population for that year?

The information necessary for a reply to the first, second, and fourth parts of the question is not at present available. As regards the third part of the question, the grants paid by the Board of Education in respect of (a) public elementary schools, (b) secondary schools and pupil teachers, and (c) technical institutes, schools of art, and evening schools in the year ended 31st March, 1910, were £11,246,117, £753,850, and £512,475 respectively.
