HC Deb 28 April 1910 vol 17 cc768-9W
Mr. WILLIAM THORNE

asked the President of the Local Government Board whether, in view of the continually increasing cost of Poor Law administration, the greater concentration of poverty, particularly in the outer areas of Greater London and other industrial centres, and the difficulties of the guardians in providing adequate relief in such poor neighbourhoods, the Local Government Board will take into serious consideration the necessity of making grants in aid of necessitous Poor Law districts, as is already done on behalf of necessitous education authorities?

Mr. BURNS

The point raised by the hon. Member will no doubt have to be considered in connection with any scheme for adjusting the relations of Imperial and local taxation.
